In this exercise, you'll be asked to do simple tree diagrams with the Araucaria program. You'll make figures that look like this:
Notice that this diagram shows the premises above together leading to a conclusion below. It's marked by DS...make sure you see why!
Assignment: You will be given four new arguments. This is 1_1.txt and it's also included in the "little program" just below, a zip program with everything you need for customizing Araucaria for the Cafe.
This week you'll also need 1_1.scm. Your job will be to give tree diagrams for all four and save them as .jpg picture files to be uploaded and posted on Moodle. You can do this as one big picture or four little ones.
If you don't want to use Araucaria, you can draw these up by hand. All you'll need for this is under the downloads link (Tools>Downloads on the top left of the Cafe.)
Directions: Now, it's time to do your own.
First, download, install, and open our argument drawing program, Araucaria. Right now the best place to find it is on our Moodle page.
Second, you'll need to get a bunch of files that are specific to our class. The easiest thing to do is to place these all on your desktop...
Windows users: Run this little program and unzip all the files to your desktop. (If you hate a cluttered desktop, you can put these files in another folder of your choosing later.) NOTE: 2_1.txt in the zip file needs to be fixed...make Trump president. Just download the new file here. (Or pretend, if you prefer, that Obama is still president.)
Mac and Linux users: unzip this .sit file. (You'll need the free expander, Unarchiver or perhaps Stuff-It from Alladin Software. Alternative, your Mac may be able to unzip this zip file.)
Third, follow this Slide-show to see just what to do with Araucaria. (You will be using 1_1.txt and 1_1.scm for the four arguments this week.)
